Some people don't understand why I am such a squealing fangirl over a character who ostensibly has no emotions, only mates every seven years, etc. Well, here's why:

1. Spock is a good guy. He always thinks about the greatest good for the greatest number. He is always honest. His loyalty to Kirk and to the Enterprise never wavers. He is a pacifist. He is even a vegetarian.

2. Spock is a genius. He can do complex calculations in his head in seconds. He usually figures out what's going on before anyone else does. He has ridiculously complete and accurate bodies of knowledge about almost everything.

3. Spock is tortured. He has weird, confusing, strong emotions that won't leave him alone, and he tries to overpower them, but that makes him lonely and unhappy. He has never really fit in anywhere, and he lives with a bunch of people who don't understand him. The only person who's really even nice to him is Kirk. This is heartbreaking, and it makes me want to give him a hug.

4. Despite his problems, Spock is strong. Even though his emotions slip out once in a while, he never, ever does anything stupid or selfish because of them. He can also withstand huge amounts of physical and emotional pain without cracking.

5. Spock kicks ass. Sure, he's a pacifist, but when he is forced to resort to violence, you do not want to be on the other end of it.

6. Spock is an outstanding musician. He plays at least two instruments: Vulcan harp and piano. He can sightread very well, improvise, and pick things out by ear. As a musician, this appeals to me a whole lot.

7. Spock likes animals. He goes all soft over tribbles, the cat in "Assignment Earth," and the horta. This is adorable.

8. Even though he denies it, Spock has a sense of humor. When they have their little insult-fests, he is just as witty as McCoy.

9. Leonard Nimoy has a sexy, sexy voice.

10. Leonard Nimoy has sexy, sexy hands. Oh my goodness, do I ever wish I were the Romulan Commander.
